Spicy Sesame Tofu Triangles

This is by far my favorite tofu dish. It is not only quick but super easy and relatively healthy. I usually eat it with a big hefty side of steamed broccoli. With a carnivore as a boyfriend, there are nights where I don't know what to cook that is similar yet simple. I can usually fry up my tofu while his chicken is roasting in the oven. Yummy.

Spicy Sesame Tofu

Ingredients:

  • 3 tbsp Low Sodium Soy Sauce
  • 3 tbsp Honey
  • Black Pepper
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Chili Powder
  • Pinch of Crush red peppers
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1 tsp corn starch
  • 6 oz Extra firm Tofu
  • Olive Oil (or any preferred pan oil)
  • Sesame Seeds (optional)

Preparation:

  1. In a small bowl, first mix water and cornstarch. Whisk or stir until smooth consistency.
  2. To the cornstarch mixture, add soy sauce, honey, pepper, onion powder, chili powder and red peppers. Set aside.
  3. Cut tofu into triangles or any shape you preferred and pat dry with paper towels.
  4. Heat oil on a skillet on medium low heat. Oil should just coat the pan.
  5. Slowly add tofu to skillet. Once browned lightly on one side, flip and brown other side (About 3 to 5 minutes each side).
  6. Once both sides of the tofu are lightly browned, re-stir soy sauce mixture and slowly pour over tofu.
  7. Reduce heat and watch your sauce thicken.
  8. Once plated, sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve with a side of rice and/or steamed veggies.
Enjoy!
